FREE screen capture tool in Windows Vista

There are numerous times we need to do a simple screen capture. This could be to send a screen shot to a colleague or support staff etc. What one would normally do is use the Print Screen (PrtSc) key on the keyboard. But then you will have to open an image editor to get the screen capture. Sometimes you might need to crop the image as well.

Windows Vista has come up with a nice screen capture tool called the ‘Snipping Tool‘. This comes bundled with Windows Vista so you don’t need to download this separately. DOS ‘Edit’ text editor on Vista

Can you believe Microsoft included their famous old ‘Edit’ DOS editor back from 1995 in Windows Vista? That means when they said Windows Vista is backward compatible, they really meant it. I used this long time back when I was learning Pascal programming. This came in as a surprise and sure reminded of the good old days.

Connecting XP and Vista

When I bought my laptop, which came with Windows Vista, I wanted to connect my Windows XP PC with it. I used a router as well, which I used with Internet. However I was not able to make them communicate. So here is what I did.

First thing was to make both PC and laptop have the same WORKGROUP name. Without the same workgroup name, it is not possible to communicate. To change the workgroup name, right click on My Computer/Computer on your Windows XP/Windows Vista computers and select properties. You can see the WORKGROUP there. Give a suitable name.
