Do you think you wait longer than you should for Gmail to load? That is the time from you clicking the “Sign in” button to show your inbox. If you ask me that, I’d say yes! Why, you may ask. It’s because Gmail used to load much faster for me, of course. What really has changed then? Nothing much from Google’s side other than them reducing the number of HTTP requests to four, which should speed up the loading time. Tools to make your latest design cross-browser compatible

Many of us get very excited when a new browser releases hoping it has bug fixes and improvements. However this could be a burden from a Web Designer’s perspective. It will be another web browser and/or version to the existing list of browser compatibility checks.

Good news is there are few free tools out there to check for cross browser compatibility of your web design work. Out of the lot my favourite for checking on different version of Internet Explorer (IE) is IETester. As of this writing, it supports IE 5.5, 6, 7, and 8. It runs independently from installed version of IE so your current installation will not be messed up. This works on Windows Vista but not without occasional crashes. Nevertheless it is the best tool I found so far to check the work on different versions of IE. [Read more...]

Google Chrome – An open source browser from Google

“Google Chrome” is the name; web is the game. Google would make ripples in the web again. This time with a free, open source web browser. It is planned to be released today (2nd September 2008) in over 100 countries. It will be a beta release. Google browser will initially run on Windows but they are planning to develop versions for Mac and Linux as well. Google’s web browser code uses components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox so we can expect a solid browser. [Read more...]
