Screen Recorder & Screen Capture with Jing
Business, Software, Technology, Windows November 17th, 2009
Most of the work today involves working with computers. More people spending more time working on computers eventually creates the need to share information. What if you get a computer error while working and want to explain it to support department? What if you don’t want to waste your time and the support personnel’s time explaining the error in an email? What if you want to show your design to a client? What if you could simply get a screen capture of the error and share it with support department? Better yet, what if you could record what is happening on the screen? This is where Jing comes in handy.

Jing is a screen capture/screen recorder tool with many features. Screen capture with Jing can be initiated with ease just by clicking an icon or by pressing a hot-key of your choice. It can capture a whole window, a pane or just a region of the screen. That’s not all. You can markup the captured screenshot with a basic text box, arrow, highlight or rectangle. There’s more. Once you do the screen capture and markup, you can tell Jing where to send the screenshot. It will upload to Screencast.com and give you the link, which you can share it through many channels such as IM chats, emails, forum posts, and even Twitter and Flickr! Not to mention that you will get a free Screencast.com account with 2GB storage/bandwidth to share your files.

Screen recording with Jing works in a similar manner. It records what is happening on the screen based on your selected window or region. You can also narrate while the Jing screen recorder is on. Needless to say you need a microphone for that. However it has a cap of 5 minutes. The idea is to create short screencasts, which won’t bore you. Similar to screen capture, once the screen recording is done, Jing can upload it to Screencast.com and give you the link to share. Alternatively you can chose to save the screencast as a SWF Flash video.
Jing is available as a FREE download for Windows and Mac. There is also a pro version that offers extra features such as MPEG-4 video, unbranded videos, share on YouTube and recording from webcams for $14.95 per year.
Jing makes it a lot easier for you and others to understand what you are talking about. Not to mention it saves a lot of time and hassle of communicating back and forth. And did I mention it is free? So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and give this great screen capture/screen recorer a shot and share your thoughts in comments section below.
