Most of you may have heard about Twitter. For those who don’t know, it is a mini blogging tool that is gaining popularity since its inception in 2006. What really is Twitter anyway? Have you ever wondered if you can just post a short message on a website so your friends or relatives can know what you are doing? For example you are watching Indiana Jones at cinema and you want your friends in other provinces, states or countries to know this or tell about an exciting project you are working on or just about anything. This is where Twitter comes in to play.
Using Twitter is very easy. Simply logon to twitter.com to create your free account. Your user name will be used to create your personal home page (twitter.com/username) with Twitter. You have the option to upload a photo and activate sending updates to Twitter via mobile phone, IM, and other methods. As well you can invite contacts in your Gmail, Yahoo, MSN etc address books. There are other customizations you can do, if you like.
Now simply post messages by logging in to twitter.com or by text messaging from your mobile phone, and it will be published immediately. Of course you can hide your updates from public viewing and limit it to only your contacts. However you have a character limit of 140. That is more than enough to tell what you are doing. Finally you can chose to follow your contacts’ Twitter updates so you will know what your contacts are doing.
